ELIN'S PROJECT SUMMARY

Description:
Redeveloping a diagnostic system, which monitors incoming data from mechanical measurements on the JET vacuum vessel, using LabVIEW.

Objectives:
The main goals with the redevelopment have been:
To add an additional 64 signals for monitoring

To record and post process the mechanical displacement of the vessel due to the vessel
temperature variation

To notify the MIPS (Machine Instrumentation Protection System) group automatically via email if a disruption occurred during a pulse, and attach an Excel sheet with the fast data obtained during a disruption with the email

To graphically display the fast acqusition data obtained during a disruption

To improve the graphical user interface of the monitoring program

Elin’s comments:
The project appeared daunting to start with since I had only a basic understanding of LabVIEW. On reflection of this project, it was a great way of increasing my knowledge of LabVIEW. I also gained experience by collaborating with other departments (CODAS Control & Diagnostic Group and Plasma Operations Group), which led to an ongoing project concerning the analysis of the fast acqusition data obtained during a disruption. To summarise, the project goals were met in full and on a personal level I feel more integrated into the JET team.
